Barrio

Barrio was a Cali Mexican bar and burrito joint led by a team of Mexican chefs, built around simple, honest food made entirely from scratch using imported corn and chilies. The concept drew from luchadores and urban Mexican cultural artifacts, positioning the space as both a restaurant and a hub for Mexican music and cultural events. I developed the full brand concept, designed the visual identity including logo, colors and typography, and led the interior transformation. Located in a sterile commercial unit, the challenge was to create warmth and authenticity. We exposed original building materials, reused and repurposed what was already there, built the bar and tables from recovered floorboards, and clad walls with discarded construction materials. Murals, hand lettering and custom-built interior elements added texture and personality, while a bold but warm color palette made the space joyful and inviting.
